Ipe is an alternative wood to the now threatened pernambuco for bow making. Naturally present in the Amazon rainforest, this dense, oily hardwood makes for an affordable option to pernambuco. We find ipe bows to be a bit warmer than pernambuco, with less overtones and color. A good option for warming up overly bright instruments, or just as a less expensive, yet high quality, hand-crafted choice.
